Save our ticket offices

Cllr Gary Scott outside Alresford station.

Greater Anglia are proposing to close a number of ticket offices across the Tendring district.

On the Sunshine Coast line the firm wants to close the offices at Alresford, Great Bentley, Thorpe-le-Soken and Walton-on-the-Naze, whilst on the Mayflower line it wants to close the offices at Dovercourt and Harwich International.

I am concerned about the impact on local rail users, particularly the elderly and disabled.

Greater Anglia claim that improved ticket machines will be installed. However, they give no details of these improvements. New machines will not replace the personal advice which the current expert staff offer, for example on choosing the cheapest fare or on travelling during engineering works. For those without access to the internet, especially the elderly, this is really important.

Passengers wishing to purchase railcards will now have no choice but to go online, or make a visit to one of the few offices still open in the district - and even these have very limited opening hours.

Most recently, Transport Focus (who represent rail users) have announced that they are officially opposing the proposals.

Please sign my petition and support my call for Greater Anglia to reconsider this proposal.

Thank you,

Gary Scott
