No waste plant in Brightlingsea

LorryConservative-controlled Essex County Council is drawing up a new Waste Local Plan for the county. The new plan is currently being considered by an inspector and includes a site in Morses Lane, Brightlingsea. If the site is included in the final plan, it will be difficult for the local planning authority to reject the development.

The site will be used to crush concrete and other materials and turn them into recycled aggregates. Recycling is important, but this kind of recycling should not be located near to residential properties, schools and retail sites, with a large volume of heavy lorries putting pressure on the only road in and out of our town. All demolition waste would have to be transported into town and taken out again. This will cause dust and noise, reducing the quality of life and health for the residents of Brightlingsea.

We believe that sites like these are best located where the infrastructure is already established, away from large settlements. The ideal location would be next to the current waste station on the A120, where there is a suitable road and room to expand. The proposed site in Brightlingsea, put forward by the Conservatives at County Hall, is unsuitable and other sites should be looked at.

Please sign my petition to show your opposition to these plans.
